what happened to family game nights?

When I was younger I received a game as a birthday present.  I believe I was 8 or 9 years old at the time.  The game was called “Shopping Spree”.  I didn’t realize at the time that in about 30 years I would’ve started a website called Shopping Wives

I guess as Christmas draws nearer I begin to get more melancholy and think about things from years gone by.

Just for the heck of it I went to Amazon and typed in this game to see if they still had it.  And to my surprise they did.

I can remember sitting at the kitchen table.  Playing this with the family.  That was the good old days.

I wonder how many children actually ask for board games now.  Most want video games, computer games.  Unless we do these family game nights and keep them alive then I am afraid Is really going to be a thing of the past.

I am not saying I believe video games are wrong.

What I am saying is my wish for all children today would be to able to experience a family game night.   A game where we laugh and have a good time while waiting for the slow poke to take his or her turn.  Or for someone to get back from the kitchen or bathroom.

I am guilty now of getting caught up in life and other things and not arranging these nights as I should.

John & I own several board games with the intentions of playing them.  One year we went out and bought several fun games for a local childrens home.   We hope they enjoyed them.  I have not got to do that this year yet but I hope these games have brought as much joy to them as we hoped they would.

Like I said I am just being sentimental of days gone by tonight, but I do still have the love for a good old fashioned board game whenever I get the chance.

What is some of your favorite games?

My husband has been off work this week and we actually played three board games this morning! It’s snowing out and there isn’t much else to do so it was a perfect time. Not as fun with only two of us playing (kids are still too little), but it was a good time though! I love board games 🙂
