I think a lot of people may agree with my next statement. When I am really exercising and eating healthy, I like to see results. So many people, including myself, watches the numbers on that scale way too much!
Remember muscle weighs more then fat. When you lose fat and start building up that muscle, you may actually see your scales go up. This isn’t a bad thing. But it can be frustrating. That is why I have always relied on my friend, the measuring tape. With a measuring tape I can measure inches and see results more accurately.
Another tool is something called a Body fat test caliper. The caliper is a tool that helps you determine body fat, by pinching certain target areas of skin on your body. The main places to test is the front arm and the stomach. If you have someone to help you, then you may want to test your shoulder blade and the back of your arm.
While I had tape measures, I had never owned a caliper for body fat before. Then I found a set from Ozeri and wanted to try them out.
The tape measure will measure up to 78”. I loved the fact that it was inside a nice case and is retractable. It is so much easier to hold onto and take measurements myself.
The caliper at first look is small and plastic and you would think cheap looking maybe. But it really works well, and I don’t think will break for a while. What I liked about it was that it wasn’t high tech. It isn’t going to run out of batteries and what it shows on it is true. Have you ever been on a scale and told yourself it wasn’t accurate because the battery was getting old? I think these can really make the most hard headed of us all accountable.
