Do you remember your first ride on the bus?
For most kids it is back to school season, or first day of school. For my niece and nephew it was both. First day of school for my 5 year old nephew and Back to school day for my 9 year old niece.
This got me thinking. Everyone remembers their first day of school… Well most of us do. But can you remember your first bus ride? Do you want to remember your first bus ride?
As I type this I am trying to remember mine. My mom took me on the first day of school so I didn’t have to ride the bus there. I am pretty sure the first ride went fairly smooth.
I do remember getting on the bus one day and looking around and no familiar faces. I found a seat and thankfully someone told me I was on the wrong bus. That was a very scarey feeling for a 6 year old. Maybe if I had remembered my bus number that wouldn’t have happened. Just so happened the driver was parked in a different spot that day.
While time has passed and made memories fuzzy I do remember my older sister, brother & I had to walk to the top of the hill and wait by a laundry mat to catch the bus. During winter we would stand out and freeze but sometimes the owner would let us inside to wait for the bus inside. That was great. Pinball machines (that I had no quarter for) small bags of bugles and hot fries that we could purchase for milk break and Rod Stewart playing on the jukebox. Great memories!
I am glad to say my niece and nephew made it home safely from school today and both are excited to go back. I wonder if in 30 years or more if they will remember their early age bus rides?
