Cookies, pies, cupcakes I love them all! While I can say I have a sweet tooth, I also have a savory tooth as well. One savory bake good that I love is corn bread. I don’t make it that often anymore due to the fact that John doesn’t eat it. I don’t like to make too much of something that I am going to end up eating. Especially when I don’t need it.
But I had a chance to make cornbread a week or so ago. What gave me that chance? It was a silicone pan that I received for review. Keliwa has a 12 cup silicone baking pan available on Amazon. It is only $9.99 and a perfect addition to my baking dishes.
So I could have made cupcakes or something sweet- But I went with the savory. I mixed up my simple cornbread recipe:
1 cup of flour
2 cups of corn meal
dash of salt
1 to 1 1/2 cups of milk
All stirred together in a bowl.
I love to make my cornbread in a cast iron skillet. I normally heat grease in the skillet on the stove top and pour that batter right in there before sticking it in the oven. With the silicone pans I just sprayed it with some Pam. Really this was healthier for me so that is a plus. With the silicone pan it has to go on a cookie sheet.
I had preheated my oven to about 450 – I was nervous about sticking something that looks like rubber in the oven. But after 30 minutes I have to say the bread was done and the pan was in tact.
It was easy to clean up. Made moderate size corn bread muffins. And I am happy with it.
Have you ever tried baking in silicone? If not, you really should!
