I have to tell you a short story. This one is about traveling. It was in fact the first time I was out of the country.
2008 John and I wanted to go to Canada to visit some friends. I had never been out of the country, so I guess I just wasn’t thinking about what I needed to take. We packed some clothes and things we needed, jumped in the car and off we went.
Our first mistake was going through customs/immigration. It was late at night and nobody was out so John drove through. We didn’t get far until we were pulled over. Our car was searched. We were put up by a building and questioned separately. I guess we answered right because we didn’t get in trouble. We were allowed into the country.
We visited our friends and when it was time to come home we had to stop at immigration. There was a line of cars, it was daylight and there was plenty of people there. We pulled up to a little window where the guy wasn’t smiling. He asked for our passports. John handed him his. But guess who didn’t have hers? Guess who didn’t even have one? I was wondering at that moment if I would ever see Kentucky again. Almost in tears I explained to the man, who still wasn’t smiling. He thought for a few minutes, then said, “You know I don’t have to let you enter the US don’t you?” I was well aware. Of course he let me on through.
After I made it back home the first thing I did was apply for a passport. It has came in handy in the last few years in our travels and has always been precious to me. I guess because of that incident.
I treat it like gold and always know where it is when out of the country.
I have even went a step farther and got a nice leather passport holder for it. The holder is from La Fede’s and it is a quality leather that holds my precious holder perfectly. While I have the blue one (my favorite color) it is also available in black and reddish brown.
This would make a great item to own yourself or give as a gift to your favorite traveler or hard to buy for person.
