Do it yourself home Manicure. You deserve it! - %%Shoppingwives%%

Do it yourself home Manicure. You deserve it!

Personally speaking as a woman I tend to put everybody else first and barely leave time for myself.  Being a professional procrastinator I tend to put myself off.  I have though realized that in order for me to function in the everyday world, that I do have to set a time for myself.  A whole day would be great but realistically women with out of home jobs, family etc.  may not be able to take that whole day off.

Can you spend 30 minutes a week on yourself?

I know I love to have professional manicures (and nails) but with this economy it is making it harder and harder to afford.

Here is what you need to give yourself a manicure, write it down and add it to your shopping list.  You deserve it!

  • Nail File
  • Nail Clippers
  • Nail Buffer
  • Cuticle Cream
  • cuticle pusher/orange stick
  • Nail polish remover
  • Nail polish
  • top coat
  • cotton or something to remove old polish
  • a bowl to soak fingers in
  • hand cream or lotion
  • qtips

  1. Find a work space.  Hopefully a nice quiet place where you can open a window, turn on some nice music and just get lost in yourself!
  2. Remove any old nail polish.
  3. Cut and file nails.  Don’t cut them too short!  If possible leave enough of a white tip so that you can file and make a nice shape across the whole nail.  When filing be sure you let the file glide across the nail, don’t push it.  Pushing the file ends up causing weak nails.
  4. buff your nails.  But not too much.. this grinding of the nail will also weaken it.
  5. Soak your nails in some warm soapy water.. This will loosen up the cuticles and gets rid of the powder caused by buffing as well as any dirt or whatever that was around the nails.
  6. dry nails
  7. apply cuticle cream.
  8. use the cuticle pusher to gently push back cuticles.  Don’t cut cuticles though.  This can cause infection.
  9. apply hand cream or lotion.  If you have a little extra time let the lotion soak in for 30 minutes before you continue.
  10. Take a Q tip and remove any lotion that is still around the cuticles.  Make sure hands are dry.
  11. paint nails
  12. apply a top coat
  13. let them dry
  14. enjoy!

Remember you deserve it.  I know it seems like a lot of steps but as you go along it will get easier.  Also remember that the list looks long but once you buy this stuff once you have it!  You may want to add different colors from time to time, if you are anything like me you will.  I am not typical when it comes to polish.  I like odd colors.  Right now I have what I think is a very pretty blue color on.  Most people relate it to the Kentucky Wildcats.  While I am not a basketball fan I usually go along.  I didn’t do my own.  I went  to a place called Modern Nails in Crittenden, Ky.   It is nice when you can do that but sometimes I enjoy just taking time to do it myself!

I hope you found this helpful and I hope even more, that you take the time and do this.  Remember YOU deserve it!!!!

Here is mine, excuse the blurry pic!  I didn’t realize how hard it is to take a picture of your own hand on a samsung galaxy!
