Should you use a dehumidifier in the winter? That is the question. I have seen some people say yes, others no. While I am no expert, I would like to share a bit about what I know on the subject.
While the winter months are usually dry with no humidity, other then the winter humidity – you may be less likely to need to dehumidify in the winter.
So what do I know or maybe I should say, why would I use a dehumidifier in winter?
Asthma attacks. Certain times of the year I totally lose my breath. I used to use an nebulizer, because it got that bad. Using a dehumidifier seems to keep any of the humidity that might creep in at bay.
Mold. If you have a basement, it stands to chance that there will be mold there through out the year. Mold spores however float through the air and into your home. A dehumidifier can make a difference in keeping these spore in control and out of your home.
Colds and Flus. During the winter months, colds seem to be more common. These germs are floating around the air that your breathing. The less humidity there is in your home, the less chance that these germs can cling to the humidity bubbles and invade your personal space.
Allergies. If you suffer from allergies then these can be worse in the winter. Dogs and cats tend to be inside more during the winter. Regular dust accumulates. All of these mites and pet dander can cling to any humidity that may be in your home. If there is humidity, it is going to float to you and carry whatever is with it to you.
I had the chance to review a compact one. It is the Gurin Thermo- Electric Dehumidifier. This one is a smaller one, so it is good for spaces such as offices, bedrooms, bathrooms or even closets. It looks good, is easy to use and move around if you need to move it from room to room.
One of my favorite features on this is the fact that it has a indicator light and automatic shut off.
I have used mine a few days now here in my living room, but I think I am going to move it to my bedroom so I can use it while I sleep.
This is something I will use year round and something I would suggest anybody use.

Whether you’re buying for a birthday, Christmas or another special day, buying for you Dad can be challenging. No two Dads are the same, so it’s important that you find a gift that reflects his interests and personality perfectly. With so much choice online and in stores it can be difficult to find something that is just him. So if it’s his birthday soon or if you just want to spoil him, you can use this guide that features some fantastic gift ideas for you to use.
For a Dad who is creative
Creativity is something that should be encouraged, so why not buy your Dad something that can help him unleash his creative side. Adult coloring books are extremely popular at the moment and make an excellent gift choice. As well as providing attractive images for him to color in, it can also act as an effective stress reliever. Pair your coloring book with some good quality pencils or markers and let him get coloring. If that doesn’t appeal, you could get a model set. Choose a set that appeals to his interests such as architecture or trains. These sets require patience and an artistic flair and will provide your Dad with some entertainment after work or on the weekends.
For a Dad who enjoy music
Does your Dad love music? If so, buying a music inspired gift is a must. You could enroll him on a beginners course to learn the guitar or the drums. This will teach him a new skill and allow him to meet people with similar tastes and interests. Or why not buy him tickets to see his favorite artist or band in concert. This gift will give you some quality time together sharing something your Dad is passionate about. Place the tickets inside the CD of the band he likes to surprise him with your thoughtful gift. You could also bring your Dad up to date and get him an iPod that is already filled with his favorite songs. He could use this while he goes running or just to fill his home with the sound of music.
For a Dad who likes to smoke
If your Dad loves to smoke there are a number of gifts, you could buy for him. If he enjoys smoking a pipe, You could buy him an upgraded model with an assortment of pipe tobacco he might enjoy. This will give him some variety and introduce him to new brands and flavors. Or why not buy him an engraved cigarette case that he can take wherever he goes. Go for a slim design that can easily fit into any pocket and choose a message or date that has some significance to it to be engraved on the top. He will love how functional this gift is and be touched by the engraving.
This guide should assist you in making the best decision possible when buying a gift for your Dad. Think very carefully about his interests and never shop last minute. Give yourself plenty of time to shop around and you’re guaranteed to find a gift he will adore.
Birthdays and anniversaries are two examples of where you might need to give gifts to loved ones. The trouble is; some people are just hard to buy presents for! You know the type of people I’m talking about; the ones that “have it all.” They’re also the people that offer no clues to what they might want!
As you can imagine, thinking of the perfect gift idea can sometimes be a nightmare. It can even be a stressful experience for the gift-giver! I should know; I’ve been in that situation many a time.
Are you stuck for ideas on what to give your loved ones? Sometimes a hard-to-find gift is a way forward, believe it or not! Here are some examples of places where you can search for gift ideas that aren’t readily available:
Let’s say that you’ve got a loved one that is an avid comic book collector. Sure, you could buy the latest copy of something from your local comic book store. But what if they are only interested in classic comics. You know, ones that are twenty or thirty years old, for instance?
If they’ve given you a hint of what they’d like as a gift, auction sites are good places to start. You’ll find a wealth of collectible items sold at such establishments. One of my favorites is Pristine Auction. That’s because they have hard-to-find products on offer from a variety of categories.
Of course, you shouldn’t ignore good old eBay! It might surprise you to learn just what collectibles get sold on there too!
Vintage and retro stores
Sometimes you might have to step away from your computer and visit retail stores to get what you want, unless you are technology geek and looking for best way to buy Microsoft Excel of latest version. If you live near a major city, I recommend checking out some vintage and retro shops. They ALWAYS have a plethora of hard-to-find items for sale!
From clothes to computers, and ornaments to oboes. You’re bound to find what you’re looking for in a vintage or retro store near you.
Now these are places that I love to visit, even if I’m not buying a gift for a loved one! In case you’ve never been to one before, flea markets are bazaars where all kinds of items get sold. Many of them sell inexpensive items and are useful if you’re short on cash.
Some flea markets specialize in vintage and collectible antiques. If there’s a particular thing in mind that you need to find, check out your local flea markets. That’s because they are highly likely to have them on offer!
Believe it or not, you might get the thing you want for free! Websites like Freecycle allow people to offer physical items to others for no money. They do so because they just want rid of something, like an item of furniture. People offer items for free on the proviso they don’t get sold onwards.
Freecycle and other sites like it have all kinds of items on offer. Be sure to check the listings several times a day. Why? Because things get snapped up quickly as you can imagine!
Thanks for reading today’s article. I hope you enjoyed it!
When it comes to hair I would have always characterized mine as straight and oily. Once I got the bright idea to use chemicals in it, such as hair dyes and a few bad perms, it became dry and frizzy.
I own several flat irons and they are all well and good, but I was afraid to use them on a regular basis. I have seen what chemicals and heat can do to some ones hair and it isn’t pretty. The regular flat irons tend to press the hair and sometimes fry it. Over time hair becomes dry and brittle and breaks.
Then I started hearing about a brush iron. It supposedly gave the same results as a regular flat iron, but isn’t so hard on the hair. Of course once I heard about it, I wanted to try it out. I guess that is why I was super excited when I finally got the chance to review one!
This one is from Apalus and is available on Amazon. It has a 3 in 1 function. This means it does 3 things. #1. Detangles hair #2. Straightens hair #3 works as a head massager.
It is a well made brush that has a nice thick cord with enough length on it to do your hair without fuss. It is a US safety plug, Short circuit protection and leakage protection. It also has a auto shut off that will shut off after it hasn’t been used for 60 minutes.
To use just plug it in. Push the power button the side and select your temperature by pushing the plus and minus signs. This iron goes up to 450 F.
For my thicker hair I set the temperature to go on the highest 450. If your hair is thinner or more delicate, you might want to try around 410.
After you turn it on and adjust the settings, you wait 1 minute. It is now ready to use. To straighten hair just hold the ends of your hair and brush straight down. You can clip you hair and do it in layers, if that is easier for you. I like to put about a dime size amount of Moroccan oil in my hand, rub it through my hair and then brush through it. It seems to make a huge difference in my hair. Now that I have it, I don’t want to use any other one.
This would be perfect for someone not used to using hair tools, or even for teens. I say this because it is really hard to manage burning yourself with it, with the way it is made.
While I suggest it for beginners and younger people, It will work for anyone that straightens their hair. Using and trying is knowing. I am glad I got to try this out!

Today New Years Resolutions were at an all time high. Blank Page, New year. Time to change for the better. I myself didn’t make an official resolution. Sure, there is things that I want to incorporate into the new year. Things like being a more positive person, getting in more exercise, eating healthier, being more organized. etc. Yes, I am not a perfect person so I have several things to focus on in 2016.
I think I heard on the news that losing weight was the top resolution this year. If you are one of those that made that resolution or just someone like me, that is going to eat more in moderation, you may want to find out more about these portion control containers.
These containers are from Prefer Green and are available on Amazon.
This set contains the following 7 containers:
Purple 8 oz Fruit Container
Green 8 0z vegetable container
Red 6 oz protein container
Yellow 5.3 oz carb container
2x Orange 2 oz seed or dressing containers
Blue 2.7 Healthy fat or cheese container
I was told that these containers were comparable to the 24 day fix system. I am not familiar with that system so I cannot tell you if that is true or not. I can tell you my thoughts on these as I see them.
When someone like me, that is someone that enjoys eating, pulls these out of the box they are going to be shocked. I couldn’t think about filling these up and getting one meal out of them, let alone 3 and a snack/s. I am sure it can be done, but I wouldn’t do it personally. First off everybody has different lifestyles and they have different caloric needs. Also I can’t think my needs would be the same as my Husbands. That is why I wouldn’t support any diet or system that told me that is all that is going to be available for me.
Now on the other hand, these are the PERFECT containers for when you are trying to eat in moderation. To have perfectly measured out bowls with lids is so convenient. These make it easy to prepare snacks or even carry them with you to work or wherever you are going during the day.
I will definitely be using these containers in 2016 and I think they will help me in my quest of eating in moderation.
The bowls themselves are nice to own. They are made well and dishwasher and microwave safe. I love the vibrant colors they come in.
On a final note. If I had 2 or 3 of these sets and used them to measure out my meals I think these could help me.
What do you think? Would you be able to survive a whole day on
the contents of these containers?

When I clean my kitchen, I like it to look clean. I do not like the clutter laying on the counters. Sometimes one thing can make your kitchen look cluttered. Even things we really need on our counters for everyday use. One of those items is a dish drainer. While I normally use my dishwasher, I sometimes have need for a drainer.
Sure, I could throw my bulky drainer under the sink when I am done. But that doesn’t mean anything when my good plates are still draining.
As with any problem, there is a solution. Don’t buy those plastic bulky drainers. Try out something like a 2 tier bamboo drying rack. There is several advantages to this type of rack.
The bamboo looks good, even when there is dishes in it. It fits in with just about any décor. When you aren’t draining your dishes, it folds up and fits in even one of those skinny corner cabinets.
I like this one because it is 2 tiers. 3.9 inches tall for bottom rack and the top rack has slats up to 6 inches talk. I have had wooden racks in the past, but they were one rack and they didn’t hold near as many items and storage wasn’t as simple.
Usually when I see something is bamboo I know it is going to be worth trying. Bamboo is durable and quality. I know this first hand due to my husband growing it around the creek in front of our home. In fact it is so durable, that the neighbor took some home to make cane poles to use for fishing.
I must warn you there is one con to owning this. If you own a pet panda bear, it may get eaten. If you don’t I think you would be safe in purchasing one of these.
So to sum it up, I would recommend this item for anyone that
1. Has a kitchen with dishes
2. Doesn’t own a panda bear
I love finding solutions to problems, especially when it comes to my home. Now I I can just figure the rest of the kitchen clutter that accumulates, I will be doing good!

This one is another one that foxy likes to chew on and it is more for fetch instead of catch. This is due to the weight of it. It is A rubber dog chew. It is rubber. It is blue. It looks more like a bar bell type of toy. But it is supposed to look more bone shape.
I really like that this bone shaped rubber toy has spikes and grooves along the center. It is designed this way for your dogs teeth. It helps to grind them as well as knock down plaque.
It really is well made. Foxy has chewed and played with it for about a month now, and he hasn’t managed to destroy it. That shows me it is quality made.
If you have a younger puppy that is into chewing, this would be a nice safe toy that I would recommend to all pet parents.
It is available on Amazon.

If I had to name one item that we have purchased several of in the last year, I would have to say that item would be dog toys in general. Foxy loves his toys and always has. He is always up for a game of fetch, catch, tug or chew. He is almost like a child when it comes to getting something new.
When we go out and come back in he tends to look for things. We finally agreed that the toys had to become less often and we treat him and Cleo with things like bones and rawhides for their teeth.
That doesn’t stop him for always hoping that there will be something round or squeaky somewhere in that bag of groceries, or in the latest Amazon box that shows up at our door. Sometimes those Amazon boxes does have something for him.
Like this Cute orange bear chew toy. It was almost everything Foxy enjoyed in one. The tail was a rope toy. It was a stuffy and it even had a squeaky toy in it. Foxy loved it and spent several hours carrying it around, playing with it and just doing Foxy things with it.. I may be speaking in past tense here. I shouldn’t do that. He still has his orange bear and plays daily with it. It is just a bit different now.
The stitching did rip. The stuffing was going everywhere. John wanted to toss it, but I didn’t. So I removed all the stuffing and made him an unstuffed orange bear and he still loves it. I have bought him unstuffed animals and he loves them all so this one was just another one of those to him.
Other then the incident with the stuffing, this bear squeak toy was super cute and worth the price. It is now available on Amazon.

The holidays are coming to the end. We have all shopped until we dropped, or maybe I should say, we have shopped for everybody else until we dropped. A lot of people are happy, some people can never be. Either way, if you are reading this post- You have made it through Christmas 2015.
How did I survive Christmas this year? It wasn’t easy. One of the main things I did, was do most of my shopping online. Fed Ex, UPS Drivers & the mail men seen me faithfully this season.
My family is easy to buy for, or most of them. Most have wish lists at various sites or they are just vocal about that they want. So I was able to go to the wish lists and while I may not have bought everything on them, I was able to see the stuff that was in their interest range so they could be surprised.
Then there was a few gifts that was just strictly from the heart. This was the case with the photo collage blanket I had made for my sister. It was made up with an assortment of pictures of our Mom and at the top was written “My Mom, My Angel”.
All in All everyone seemed to be happy.
Cooking was also a simple meal in my household this year. I baked a ham and along with it I served Baked Beans, Macaroni salad & Rolls. For dessert there was a coconut cream pie. It went well I think.
I know cooking is always easier when you have the right tools. For instance the simple things such as the knives that is available can really make a difference. Normally I have a paring knife on hand. This year I was able to use a set of knives that was sent to me for reviewing.
I knew when I seen them they were nice ones. But the proof was when I actually used them. The ones I am talking about is the Elegana 10 piece ceramic knives. This set of knives has a 3” paring knife, 4 inch fruit knife, 5” santoku ceramic knife and a 6” chef knife. They all come with blade covers, a ceramic peeler and a cleaning cloth.
I had always used the stainless steel knives and they did alright. But these ceramic ones are nice to look at, quality and just make slicing, dicing and cutting so much simpler. That onion didn’t know what hit it!
So to sum it up…..
I shopped until I dropped.
Made things easier on myself by shopping online and using wish lists
sent gifts from the heart
and last but not least
made cooking easier by using a good set of knives.
How was your Christmas this year???
